Zero Data Retention
Zero Data Retention (ZDR) is a setting on a customer-owned Vercel AI Gateway connection. It is not a Steinkauz AI certification, and it is not a Steinkauz AI-managed inference plan. On other BYOK providers, retention is whatever each provider you connect already offers.
For Gateway connections, the request option asks Vercel to use its ZDR routing set. Vercel currently requires a Pro or Enterprise account for this feature. Customer-owned provider keys inside the Gateway are excluded by default unless marked ZDR-compliant in the Gateway account. The applicable agreement defines the retention scope and exceptions. See Vercel’s ZDR documentation .
Why it matters
Provider retention is separate from Steinkauz’s stored API transcripts, Responses, usage and policy evidence. Enabling a provider ZDR option does not delete or disable these Platform records. No-training and zero-retention commitments must be assessed under your provider agreements.
On a customer-owned Gateway
If you connect a Vercel AI Gateway with your own API key, you can turn on Zero Data Retention in Gateway Provider Configuration. When enabled, Vercel restricts routing to its ZDR set. Turning the Platform option off does not override ZDR enforced by your Gateway account or virtual model. When no such requirement applies, providers may retain data according to their own policies.
On BYOK
With BYOK, your requests go directly to the providers whose API keys you configured. Each provider has its own data retention and privacy policy. Steinkauz AI does not add a separate ZDR layer for BYOK; you choose providers that match your requirements and comply with their terms.
Transparency
We do not use your data to train our own models. For how we handle data in general, see Data handling and the Privacy Policy .
